Hosting your own virtual Bloody Big Quiz

It’s a really tough time for people affected by blood cancer, whether you’re shielding or socially distancing, so why not take some time to reach out to those closest to you and fundraise for Blood Cancer UK at the same time by hosting a quiz, virtually?

Here’s our step by step guide to get your started.

1. Register your event to receive our free digital fundraising pack with over 150 questions for you to choose from!

Sign up to receive your free pack. Follow the instructions below if you plan to host your own, virtual, Bloody Big Quiz.

2. Think about when you’d like to host your Bloody Big Quiz

Chat to your friends and family to find out when’s best for them. You never know, midday on a Tuesday might suddenly be the best time to host your event as people’s lives continue to change in such unprecedented ways.

3. Spread the word to your friends and family to get as many people playing as possible

Because you’ll be hosting a virtual quiz, there’s no cap on numbers! Start to promote your quiz a few weeks in advance. We recommend charging everyone £5 to take part – reassure them what a difference this will make to people affected by blood cancer at such a challenging time.

4. Pick a video conferencing app

There are loads of free video conferencing apps out there, some of our favourites are Google Hangouts, Skype, Zoom and House Party but just use whatever works for you. All you will need to do is make sure you can access whatever app you use from your phone, tablet or laptop.

5. Get prepping!

Get right into the spirit by printing some of our downloadable bunting and hanging it up where your friends and family will be able to see during your virtual event! Have a think about a prize for the winners (and maybe even a wooden spoon forfeit). Here’s an idea – if you have any, the winner receives a 9 pack of toilet roll – probably the most in demand product in the UK right now!

6. Set up a JustGiving page

The easiest way for your friends and family to support your event is to set up a JustGiving page. Once you have set up a JustGiving page, share the link with everyone taking part (and even those who can’t make it!) to encourage them to make donations.

7. Host your event

When the time comes, log on to whatever app you have chosen to host your quiz and settle down for a great event with all the people you’d love to see but can’t meet just now – whilst supporting Blood Cancer UK at the same time.

8. Supercharge your quiz

There are some great games in our fundraising guide that you can play with your quiz-ees, anyone who takes part can make a small donation on your JustGiving page.

9. Thank everyone for coming together

Why not send everyone who took part a personal email or record them a video of thanks and send it via WhatsApp or whatever social media platform you use?

10. Plan another one!

Everyone is missing their friends and family, so why not agree to host a meet up regularly? You could even try our virtual Big Brunch, next time!
